The UPS is the key component of any robust power protection solution

An Uninterruptible Power Supply or UPS is designed to provide clean power even in an unpredictable world. Problems the UPS is designed to manage to include:

  • Temporary loss of power due to utility power failure
  • Power sags
  • Power surges

When the power goes out a UPS can either allow your equipment to shut down without loss of data or damage or keep your equipment running till a generator can provide power. For sags and surges, or otherwise dirty power a UPS can prevent damage to your equipment. IT resources are an important investment in your company. Making sure they are up, running and undamaged is the essential duty of an Uninterruptable power supply.

Why use an Uninterruptible Power Supply?
  • A short power outage doesn’t mean a short amount of downtime.
  • Utility power companies provide voltages within a certain range. This range is unlikely to be optimal for your equipment. Consistent voltage means more uptime.
  • Even 99.9 percent power reliability still means downtime every year.
  • Generators can keep systems operational during a utility outage, but they take time to startup and provide no protection from power spikes and other electrical disturbances. Surge suppressors help with power spikes but not with issues like power loss, under-voltage and brownout conditions.
  • UPS can help keep your company maintains availability either for internal processes or external clients.
  • UPS systems can help high availability while simultaneously reducing power costs.

Uninterruptible Power Supplies (UPS) are available in a range of voltages and auxiliary power demands. The UPS provides backup power to loads when the source voltage fails. A solid-state UPS system is different than an emergency power and/or transfer system, as it will provide instantaneous power by way of batteries or electro-mechanical equipment depending on the user's power needs.
